Design a Recyclemania at Maryland logo  promoting Recyclemania, waste reduction, and recycling!

What is Recyclemania?

• A nationwide recycling and waste reduction competition among colleges and universities

• A 10-week competition from January 17 – March 27, 2010

Recyclemania at Maryland is sponsored by:

the Student Affairs Sustainability Committee,
            the Department of Facilities Management, and
            the Office of Sustainability

Who may enter?

All currently registered undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Maryland, College Park may enter.  Registration and enrollment will be verified.

Entrants may submit up to three designs provided they are submitted in separate emails. 

Entrants may submit entries as an individual or as a team, but only one prize will be given.  

How will entries be judged?

Submissions will be judged by a committee of Recyclemania planners on the following criteria:

¨  How well the design represents the purpose of Recyclemania at Maryland (the target audience for the logo is University of Maryland students, faculty, staff, and visitors)

¨  Artistic and creative quality, appeal, and visual impact

¨  Ability to be used in different formats and sizes such as posters, website, buttons, etc.

¨  Reproducibility in both black/white and in color

¨  Appropriateness for both print and web formats

¨  Logo must say “Recyclemania” somewhere on it

¨  University of Maryland “identity” must be included:  words such as “University of Maryland” or “Terps”, etc. or visuals such as a terrapin must be used

¨  No date should be on the logo so that the logo may be used at any time

What will the winner receive?

A Wii game system !

The winner also receives the honor of being the artist of the Recyclemania at Maryland visual identity used on all marketing materials during the Recyclemania competition January 17- March. 27, 2010.

What are the contest rules?

• All designs must be the original work of the entrant and the entrant must own all design rights.
• The winning submission will become the property of the University.
• By participating in the contest, the entrant of the winning logo design transfers and assigns all rights in his/her design to the University of Maryland, including ownership and copyright in the logo, in perpetuity without a right to receive royalties or other income from its use, and agrees to make minor revisions to his/her design if requested by the judges, without compensation.
• Additional art work and/or files may be requested in order to create publicity materials.
• By participating in the contest, the entrant gives the University permission to post his/her name and University status along with the design entry on the University website and in other venues and to reproduce and display his/her name and design publicly in perpetuity and without compensation.
• Files that cannot be opened or are corrupted will be considered void and will not be accepted.

What should the submission include?

• An .eps or .tif file no larger than 2MB
• A .jpg or .png or .gif file for web use no larger than 1 MB
• A completed entry form with each submission.  The entry form is available here.

How do I submit an entry?

Entries must be submitted via email to logocontest@umd.edu.

Entries must include the Recyclemania Logo Contest Entry Form.  

When is the submission deadline?

All entries must be emailed by midnight, Friday, December 11, 2009. 

How will the winner be notified and announced?

The winner will be notified by email by December 16 and the prize will be available for pick up immediately.

The name of the logo designer will identified prominently whenever feasible.

The winner will be announced to all entrants via email prior to December 18, 2009 and the winner will be announced to the campus community on or around January 25, 2010 on www.recyclemania.umd.edu.
